Your Trigger Doesn't Move or Nothing HappensUpdated 16 days ago

Relevant Kits

The advice in this article is relevant to all DGA kits EXCEPT:

  • Machineguns (PKM, M240, M249, M60)
  • LCT AK

Symptoms

You pull or squeeze the trigger of your kit and experience one of the following:

  • The trigger feels stuck, as though the gun is on Safe
  • The trigger moves, but the gun doesn't cycle and you don't hear any air escaping or leaking
  • You try and rack the bolt, but you either can't, or it won't go back as far as it should

Causes

An out-of-position semi sear is, by far, the most common cause when you experience one or more of the above symptoms on your build.

The semi sear (or semi lever as it is sometimes called) hooks onto the valve knocker. It is this relationship that holds it in position. Spring tension on the sear attempts to force it constantly upwards; if it unhooks from the valve knocker, the sear pops up out of position, often jamming against the bolt carrier.

It is this jamming that gives both the feeling that the gun is on safe, and prevents you from properly racking the bolt.

Solutions

You can often easily fix this issue by reseating/rehooking the semi sear back onto the valve knocker.

The following instructions are generalized for all relevant kits. If you need help specific to your kit, please contact DGA support.

Tools Needed:

  • Anything required to split your receiver (ie. a pin punch)
  • Needle-nose pliers

Instructions:

  1. Separate the upper and lower receivers of your build
  2. Locate the semi sear in your build's trigger box - the semi sear will likely be sticking up out of the trigger box, and can be identified by the brass lobe attached to it
  3. Pull the auto sear upwards out of the trigger box with the needle-nose pliers - the auto sear is the other lever inside the trigger box. Spring tension attempts to constantly push it downwards
  4. Push the semi sear back down into the trigger box and hold it there
  5. Pull the valve knocker towards the front of the gun and away from the air valve
  6. Allow the semi sear to move upwards so that it hooks onto the valve knocker
  7. Drop the auto sear back down into place
  8. Reassemble your gun

Tips

  • Try not to pull the trigger when no air is connected to your gun. Pulling the trigger without air connected keeps the valve knocker pushed flush against the air valve, making a disconnect of sear and knocker more likely
  • If your semi sear keeps popping up even after fixing, then do all the steps above, but before Step 8 (Reassembly) connect your gun to air. This will push the valve stem outwards, also pushing the valve knocker backwards and providing for a stronger connection with the semi sear
